            depression is a global experience which can be difficult to =
pin=20
            down.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>While =
minor=20
            depressions have been reported to yield to EFT (see listings =
under=20
            heading Depression on website <A=20
            =
href=3D"http://www.emofree.com/">http://www.emofree.com/</A>), true=20
            psychotic depressions are another story.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>These are so all =
pervasive=20
            and overwhelming that tapping on "depression" alone is often =

            meaningless to a patient suffering acutely from these=20
            disorders.<O:P> </O:P></FONT></SPAN></P>
            <P><FONT face=3DArial size=3D3>In actuality, the word =
"depression"<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;</SPAN>lumps many =
different symptoms=20
            under one heading.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>It=20
            is therefore not surprising that when Hank Krol, a therapist =
at=20
            Stairways Behavioral Health in Erie, PA -- a mental health =
clinic=20
            working with severely mentally ill clients -- began to =
explore using=20
            EFT for<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>major =

            depression, he was initially somewhat discouraged.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;<BR><BR></SPAN></FONT><SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><FONT face=3DArial =
size=3D3>Although=20
            the patients would tap away diligently on their =
"depression,"=20
            because a major depression can be overwhelming to them and =
often the=20
            beginning and the end of their perspective on life, tapping =
on "Even=20
            though I feel depressed..." yielded mainly disappointing =
results=20
            with these patients.<O:P> </O:P><BR><BR>Accordingly, Hank =
came up=20
            with a new approach to dealing with the depressed population =
he=20
            treats, one which I think holds considerable promise.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>He reasoned that =
while=20
            "depression" itself was too general a concept for these =
people to=20
            handle, if he broke up the entity, "depression," into its =
component=20
            parts, he might obtain very different results.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>To=20
            accomplish this he used a symptom checklist found in the =
book "Mind=20
            Over Mood", written by two leading cognitive behavior =
therapists,=20
            Drs. Dennis Greenberger and Christine Pedasky (published by =
Guilford=20
            Press).<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The =
book gives=20
            practical advice and useful forms for therapists, and when =
Hank=20
            applied some of these forms to working with a depressed =
population=20
            using EFT, he hit on something quite exciting.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>Among its other features, the book has an =
inventory=20
            (page 155) which lists 19 symptoms of depression, such as =
"feeling=20
            guilty",<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>"Irritable=20
            mood", "less interest or pleasure in usual activities", =
"withdraw=20
            from or avoid people,"&nbsp;<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">=20
            </SPAN>"find it harder than usual to do things," etc.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The inventory asks =
the=20
            respondent to rate each symptom on a 4-point scale according =
to the=20
            frequency with which he or she experiences that symptom in =
their=20
            everyday life.<O:P> </O:P><BR><BR>These responses are then =
totaled=20
            to obtain a general measure of the person=92s current level =
of=20
            depression in their life, a useful tool if one wants to =
assess=20
            improvement in depression or other undesirable mood states =
over a=20
            period of time. The inventory is usually administered at =
stated=20
            intervals during the course of psychotherapy to find out if =
a=20
            depressed patient is recovering from symptoms of depression, =
and in=20
            his group therapy work Hank does use it in this fashion to =
track=20
            changes in his patients.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>However, when using it as part of individual =
psychotherapy=20
            with EFT, he does something quite different.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;&nbsp;<BR><BR></SPAN>This =
is=20
            it.<O:P> </O:P><BR><BR>He first has the patient check off =
all the=20
            symptoms on the list of 19 that apply to him or her and rate =
the=20
            frequency with which they experienced each over the past =
week,=20
            including the day of the session, using the 0 to 4 point =
scale that=20
            the inventory outlines.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>He then has the person work on each symptom =
separately using=20
            EFT.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Usually =
they are=20
            able to address only one, or at the most two, of these =
symptoms in a=20
            single treatment session. <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>Hank starts by =
asking=20
            the person to recall a recent situation<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>(if they are not =
currently=20
            feeling/sensing/seeing the symptom in question) where they=20
            experienced that symptom at a very high intensity.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>If, for example, =
they had=20
            checked the symptom "irritable mood" as applying to =
themselves, he=20
            would say something like, "When were you so irritable that =
on a=20
            scale of 0 to 10 you were an 8 or above?"<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>If the=20
            patient can=92t think of a time when they felt that =
distressed, he=20
            then asks them to go backwards in time a couple of days, and =
to keep=20
            going back until they reach a time when their intensity =
rating (on a=20
            0 to 10 scale of distress) was at least a 5 or above.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>When they have =
located such=20
            a scene in their mind, he asks them whether they want to go =
lower on=20
            that rating with respect to this issue.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Is it really =
important to=20
            them?<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>If they =
indicate=20
            that it is, then they begin working with EFT.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>Hank asks the patient to close their eyes and=20
            visualize this scene as vividly as possible, and to rate the =

            severity of the symptom as they experienced it AT THAT TIME. =
(Note=20
            that Hank does not follow the usual rule for rating distress =
in EFT,=20
            which is to rate one=92s distress level according to the =
feeling at=20
            the present moment -- he is working toward a different =
goal.).<O:P>=20
            </O:P></FONT></SPAN></P>
            <P class=3DMsoBodyTextIndent style=3D"LINE-HEIGHT: =
normal"><SPAN=20
            style=3D"FONT-WEIGHT: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: =
bold"><FONT=20
            face=3DArial size=3D3>These patients are, however, in the =
present as=20
            they 'recall' this moment in time.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The key is to =
bring the=20
            intensity level down WITHIN THE SESSION, while they =
visualize the=20
            past.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>This =
allows them=20
            to 'let go' of the recent past incident that was used to =
typify the=20
            identified symptom.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>The=20
            goal is achieved when they see how effective EFT can be in =
reducing=20
            the intensity of the symptom -- as they NOW feel or =
experience it.=20
            <O:P></O:P><BR><BR></FONT></SPAN><SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><FONT face=3DArial =
size=3D3>He then=20
            helps them to use EFT to bring their SUDS (Subjective Units =
of=20
            Distress) level down as close to zero as possible, after =
which he=20
            assigns them EFT "homework" to do on a daily basis.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>Obviously not every patient will do the =
homework, but=20
            those who do often show excellent progress.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Hank estimates =
that about=20
            50% of the patients he sees are committed enough to do this=20
            homework, but that those who do not, tend to lose =
momentum.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>It is important in the context of the clinic =
where he=20
            works to achieve as much progress outside of the actual =
therapy=20
            sessions as possible since case-load size and conflicting =
program=20
            responsibilities often permit the counselors to see clients =
only=20
            once every two weeks.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>It is difficult to keep momentum going under those=20
            circumstances unless there is interim homework.=20
            <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>When the patient returns for their next =
therapy=20
            session, Hank has them recall a new scene depicting this =
same issue,=20
            this time one which has occurred within the past two weeks =
SINCE=20
            their last therapy session -- and apply EFT to that.=20
            <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>He has them stick with each symptom until =
it is=20
            no longer one of their primary symptoms, even if this takes =
several=20
            therapy sessions.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>When=20
            that symptom has been reduced to manageable proportions (he =
doesn=92t=20
            ask for perfection) they then go on to address another =
symptom on=20
            the list, and so on.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;<BR><BR></SPAN>When =
commencing EFT=20
            work, Hank tries to have the patient select a symptom to =
work on=20
            first that is likely to be one in which they can most =
readily see=20
            reduced in their lives.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>He does this so that they can experience an initial =
success=20
            which will encourage them to continue with EFT. =
</FONT></SPAN><FONT=20
            face=3DArial size=3D3><SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><BR><BR>Persistence is =
important=20
            here.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The =
number of=20
            sessions is up to the therapist and the patient, but usually =
the=20
            latter has been authorized by the County to have only 12 =
sessions in=20
            a four-month period before re-authorization.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>This puts pressure =
on both=20
            the therapist and patient to use the most time-efficient =
methods=20
            possible, and here is where EFT can be extremely =
useful.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>It is a major =
resource for=20
            short-term psychotherapy.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>Although Hank gets a number of =
referrals=20
            involving patients suffering from major depression, he =
reports that=20
            many of them, particularly those that do their homework, are =
showing=20
            excellent progress using this method of treatment. <B=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-weight: =
normal"><O:P></O:P><BR><BR></B>It may=20
            also be of interest that the book <I=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Mind Over Mood</I> =
includes=20
            other inventories as well which can be of use to a therapist =
or=20
            counselor using EFT.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =

            </SPAN>For example, the worksheet on page 159 of the book =
lists=20
            negative beliefs associated with depression which can easily =
be used=20
            as a basis for Set-Up and Reminder phrases in EFT.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>For example, the =
list=20
            includes beliefs such as: "I=92m no good," "I'm a failure," =
"No one=20
            can help me," and so on.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>Putting the words "even though" in front of them =
converts=20
            them readily to work with EFT and Hank often uses them in =
this=20
            fashion. <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>The book also contains an =
Anxiety=20
            inventory <SPAN style=3D"mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">which =
he has also=20
            used</SPAN><SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>which=20
            divides anxiety into 24 component symptoms that can be used =
to break=20
            up the global concept of "anxiety" so that highly anxious =
patients=20
            can be treated more effectively with EFT.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>In my=20
            opinion it is important that Hank has been able to combine =
EFT with=20
            Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and that he finds this a =
useful=20
            combination. CBT is highly respected professionally, and =
should=20
            practitioners of that particular discipline become =
interested in=20
            adding EFT to their repertoire, this could do a great deal =
towards=20
            legitimatising EFT in the eyes of mainstream =
psychologists.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Let us hope that =
this=20
            happens.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>It =

            depression is a global experience which can be difficult to =

minor=20
            depressions have been reported to yield to EFT (see listings =
under=20

            psychotic depressions are another story.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>These are so all =
pervasive=20
            and overwhelming that tapping on "depression" alone is often =

            meaningless to a patient suffering acutely from these=20
            disorders.<O:P> </O:P></FONT></SPAN></P>
            <P><FONT face=3DArial size=3D3>In actuality, the word =
"depression"<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;</SPAN>lumps many =
different symptoms=20
            under one heading.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>It=20
            is therefore not surprising that when Hank Krol, a therapist =
at=20
            Stairways Behavioral Health in Erie, PA -- a mental health =
clinic=20
            working with severely mentally ill clients -- began to =
explore using=20
            EFT for<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>major =

            depression, he was initially somewhat discouraged.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;<BR><BR></SPAN></FONT><SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><FONT face=3DArial =
size=3D3>Although=20
            the patients would tap away diligently on their =
"depression,"=20
            because a major depression can be overwhelming to them and =
often the=20
            beginning and the end of their perspective on life, tapping =
on "Even=20
            though I feel depressed..." yielded mainly disappointing =
results=20
            with these patients.<O:P> </O:P><BR><BR>Accordingly, Hank =
came up=20
            with a new approach to dealing with the depressed population =
he=20
            treats, one which I think holds considerable promise.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>He reasoned that =
while=20
            "depression" itself was too general a concept for these =
people to=20
            handle, if he broke up the entity, "depression," into its =
component=20
            parts, he might obtain very different results.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>To=20
            accomplish this he used a symptom checklist found in the =
book "Mind=20
            Over Mood", written by two leading cognitive behavior =
therapists,=20
            Drs. Dennis Greenberger and Christine Pedasky (published by =
Guilford=20
            Press).<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The =
book gives=20
            practical advice and useful forms for therapists, and when =
Hank=20
            applied some of these forms to working with a depressed =
population=20
            using EFT, he hit on something quite exciting.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>Among its other features, the book has an =
inventory=20
            (page 155) which lists 19 symptoms of depression, such as =
"feeling=20
            guilty",<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>"Irritable=20
            mood", "less interest or pleasure in usual activities", =
"withdraw=20
            from or avoid people,"&nbsp;<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">=20
            </SPAN>"find it harder than usual to do things," etc.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The inventory asks =
the=20
            respondent to rate each symptom on a 4-point scale according =
to the=20
            frequency with which he or she experiences that symptom in =
their=20
            everyday life.<O:P> </O:P><BR><BR>These responses are then =
totaled=20
            to obtain a general measure of the person=92s current level =
of=20
            depression in their life, a useful tool if one wants to =
assess=20
            improvement in depression or other undesirable mood states =
over a=20
            period of time. The inventory is usually administered at =
stated=20
            intervals during the course of psychotherapy to find out if =
a=20
            depressed patient is recovering from symptoms of depression, =
and in=20
            his group therapy work Hank does use it in this fashion to =
track=20
            changes in his patients.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>However, when using it as part of individual =
psychotherapy=20
            with EFT, he does something quite different.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;&nbsp;<BR><BR></SPAN>This =
is=20
            it.<O:P> </O:P><BR><BR>He first has the patient check off =
all the=20
            symptoms on the list of 19 that apply to him or her and rate =
the=20
            frequency with which they experienced each over the past =
week,=20
            including the day of the session, using the 0 to 4 point =
scale that=20
            the inventory outlines.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>He then has the person work on each symptom =
separately using=20
            EFT.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Usually =
they are=20
            able to address only one, or at the most two, of these =
symptoms in a=20
            single treatment session. <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>Hank starts by =
asking=20
            the person to recall a recent situation<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>(if they are not =
currently=20
            feeling/sensing/seeing the symptom in question) where they=20
            experienced that symptom at a very high intensity.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>If, for example, =
they had=20
            checked the symptom "irritable mood" as applying to =
themselves, he=20
            would say something like, "When were you so irritable that =
on a=20
            scale of 0 to 10 you were an 8 or above?"<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>If the=20
            patient can=92t think of a time when they felt that =
distressed, he=20
            then asks them to go backwards in time a couple of days, and =
to keep=20
            going back until they reach a time when their intensity =
rating (on a=20
            0 to 10 scale of distress) was at least a 5 or above.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>When they have =
located such=20
            a scene in their mind, he asks them whether they want to go =
lower on=20
            that rating with respect to this issue.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Is it really =
important to=20
            them?<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>If they =
indicate=20
            that it is, then they begin working with EFT.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>Hank asks the patient to close their eyes and=20
            visualize this scene as vividly as possible, and to rate the =

            severity of the symptom as they experienced it AT THAT TIME. =
(Note=20
            that Hank does not follow the usual rule for rating distress =
in EFT,=20
            which is to rate one=92s distress level according to the =
feeling at=20
            the present moment -- he is working toward a different =
goal.).<O:P>=20
            </O:P></FONT></SPAN></P>
            <P class=3DMsoBodyTextIndent style=3D"LINE-HEIGHT: =
normal"><SPAN=20
            style=3D"FONT-WEIGHT: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: =
bold"><FONT=20
            face=3DArial size=3D3>These patients are, however, in the =
present as=20
            they 'recall' this moment in time.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The key is to =
bring the=20
            intensity level down WITHIN THE SESSION, while they =
visualize the=20
            past.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>This =
allows them=20
            to 'let go' of the recent past incident that was used to =
typify the=20
            identified symptom.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>The=20
            goal is achieved when they see how effective EFT can be in =
reducing=20
            the intensity of the symptom -- as they NOW feel or =
experience it.=20
            <O:P></O:P><BR><BR></FONT></SPAN><SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><FONT face=3DArial =
size=3D3>He then=20
            helps them to use EFT to bring their SUDS (Subjective Units =
of=20
            Distress) level down as close to zero as possible, after =
which he=20
            assigns them EFT "homework" to do on a daily basis.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>Obviously not every patient will do the =
homework, but=20
            those who do often show excellent progress.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Hank estimates =
that about=20
            50% of the patients he sees are committed enough to do this=20
            homework, but that those who do not, tend to lose =
momentum.<O:P>=20
            </O:P><BR><BR>It is important in the context of the clinic =
where he=20
            works to achieve as much progress outside of the actual =
therapy=20
            sessions as possible since case-load size and conflicting =
program=20
            responsibilities often permit the counselors to see clients =
only=20
            once every two weeks.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>It is difficult to keep momentum going under those=20
            circumstances unless there is interim homework.=20
            <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>When the patient returns for their next =
therapy=20
            session, Hank has them recall a new scene depicting this =
same issue,=20
            this time one which has occurred within the past two weeks =
SINCE=20
            their last therapy session -- and apply EFT to that.=20
            <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>He has them stick with each symptom until =
it is=20
            no longer one of their primary symptoms, even if this takes =
several=20
            therapy sessions.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>When=20
            that symptom has been reduced to manageable proportions (he =
doesn=92t=20
            ask for perfection) they then go on to address another =
symptom on=20
            the list, and so on.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;<BR><BR></SPAN>When =
commencing EFT=20
            work, Hank tries to have the patient select a symptom to =
work on=20
            first that is likely to be one in which they can most =
readily see=20
            reduced in their lives.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>He does this so that they can experience an initial =
success=20
            which will encourage them to continue with EFT. =
</FONT></SPAN><FONT=20
            face=3DArial size=3D3><SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><BR><BR>Persistence is =
important=20
            here.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>The =
number of=20
            sessions is up to the therapist and the patient, but usually =
the=20
            latter has been authorized by the County to have only 12 =
sessions in=20
            a four-month period before re-authorization.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>This puts pressure =
on both=20
            the therapist and patient to use the most time-efficient =
methods=20
            possible, and here is where EFT can be extremely =
useful.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>It is a major =
resource for=20
            short-term psychotherapy.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>Although Hank gets a number of =
referrals=20
            involving patients suffering from major depression, he =
reports that=20
            many of them, particularly those that do their homework, are =
showing=20
            excellent progress using this method of treatment. <B=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-weight: =
normal"><O:P></O:P><BR><BR></B>It may=20
            also be of interest that the book <I=20
            style=3D"mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Mind Over Mood</I> =
includes=20
            other inventories as well which can be of use to a therapist =
or=20
            counselor using EFT.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =

            </SPAN>For example, the worksheet on page 159 of the book =
lists=20
            negative beliefs associated with depression which can easily =
be used=20
            as a basis for Set-Up and Reminder phrases in EFT.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>For example, the =
list=20
            includes beliefs such as: "I=92m no good," "I'm a failure," =
"No one=20
            can help me," and so on.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: =
yes">&nbsp;=20
            </SPAN>Putting the words "even though" in front of them =
converts=20
            them readily to work with EFT and Hank often uses them in =
this=20
            fashion. <O:P></O:P><BR><BR>The book also contains an =
Anxiety=20
            inventory <SPAN style=3D"mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">which =
he has also=20
            used</SPAN><SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN>which=20
            divides anxiety into 24 component symptoms that can be used =
to break=20
            up the global concept of "anxiety" so that highly anxious =
patients=20
            can be treated more effectively with EFT.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; =
</SPAN><O:P></O:P><BR><BR>In my=20
            opinion it is important that Hank has been able to combine =
EFT with=20
            Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and that he finds this a =
useful=20
            combination. CBT is highly respected professionally, and =
should=20
            practitioners of that particular discipline become =
interested in=20
            adding EFT to their repertoire, this could do a great deal =
towards=20
            legitimatising EFT in the eyes of mainstream =
psychologists.<SPAN=20
            style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>Let us hope that =
this=20
            happens.<SPAN style=3D"mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </SPAN>It =
